MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis family is grieving the heartbreaking death of 6-year-old Winter, a nonverbal child with autism, after her father said she was left on a daycare bus for hours Thursday.
Winter’s father, Bryan Jones, said his daughter was transported from Kid University daycare to Macon-Hall Elementary School Thursday morning. According to Jones, Winter arrived at the school but was never removed from the bus.
Hours later, the child was discovered in critical condition.
Memphis police confirmed that officers responded at approximately 3:23 p.m. after receiving a report that a female juvenile was in need of medical assistance. The child was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.
Her family said Winter’s internal body temperature reached approximately 109 degrees when she died.
